Libya 2011: Flying Eagles know opponents

The groupings for the Libya 2011 Orange CAN U-20 were revealed following the draw held on Tuesday, January 04 in Tripoli.

The draw was conducted by officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The team representatives, the Libyan Football Federation and other sports oficials were present.

The eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams each to battle for honours at the 17th edition of the biennial championships.

Hosts Libya were housed in Group A alongside Mali, Egypt and Lesotho whilst Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Gambia are in Group B.

The four teams in each group will engage each other on a round-robin basis with the group winners and runners-up advancing to the semi finals with the eventual winners progressing to the final.

Libya is hosting the biennial event for the first time and all matches will be played Tripoli and Benghazi. The tournament will be staged from 18 March – 1 April, 2011

The semi finalists will represent the continent at the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for Colombia later next year.

Ghana’s Black Satellites are the defending champions.
