The Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja will come truly alive on Wednesday when world football –governing body, FIFA and the local organizing committee for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals host a Welcome Tour event that will attract over 200 guests.
The Welcome Tour is designed by the FIFA Women’s World Cup Germany 2011 LOC to further sensitize societies of the 15 qualified nations on women’s football.
“In a special gesture to salute the nations that have qualified for the tournament, LOC President Steffi Jones will embark on a ‘Welcome Tour’ of the countries concerned, paying visits to the respective football communities and putting fans in the mood, as it were, for next summer’s must-have experience”, said a statement by the LOC.
The Nigeria Football Federation, as the host federation, will also play a key role at the event which is in two parts. The first programme in the morning will be dominated by FIFA and the NFF with talks about women’s football and how to make it more popular everywhere, while the evening event is a reception where the LOC will avail the guests of the preparations for hosting the tournament this summer.
NFF President Aminu Maigari will present a welcome address before the NFF showcases the history of women’s football in Nigeria and plans by the present administration to take the game to new heights.
The Honourable Minister/Chairman, National Sports Commission, Professor Taoheed Adedoja is expected at the evening session after the Federal Executive Council meeting. However, Director General of the NSC, Chief Patrick Ekeji will be part of both events.
