Icheen, Alkali, Modibbo win State FA elections

The on-going State Football Association elections in the 36 States of the Federation and the FCT has continued apace with the emergence of Chief (Mrs) Margaret Icheen as the new Chairman of the Benue State Football Association.

The election was conducted in Makurdi on Saturday.

In Lafia, Alhaji Mohammed Alkali was elected Chairman of the Nasarawa State Football Association, while incumbent Alhaji Useini Modibbo won re-election as Chairman of the Taraba State Football Association.

The elections in Imo State, planned for last Saturday at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri could not hold, but the Executive Board of the Imo State FA met and agreed that serving officers of the FA should continue in office until the Nigeria Football Federation agrees a new date for the poll.

The excitement moves to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital with the elections into the State FA executive committee scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 25th January. The electoral committee had pleaded for more time as a result of the late constitution of the committee headed by veteran journalist, Deacon Kunle Oluwusi.


The elections into the Plateau State FA executive committee is billed for Saturday in Jos while that of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja will come up on Monday, 31st January.
