Nigeria Football Federation president Aminu Maigari says Super Falcons coach, Uche Eucharia will be dispatched to either German or England for refresher courses in January.
Maigari said the decision was reached after the falcons were humiliated 8-0 in an international friendly in Bonn last month.
Despite winning the title at this year’s Africa Women’s Champsionships (AWC) in South Africa, Eucharia was roundly criticized by some sections of the Nigerian media for what they termed “shocking and outdated tactics”.
The media chiefs got further fuel to stroke their fire after the Germany “debacle” and asked for the federation to sack the coach without any further delay.
Maigari said the board of the NFF still had implicit faith in Eucharia noting that all she needed was encouragement and a little nudge towards sharpening of her coaching skills.
“Eucharia is a good coach. We all saw what she achieved at the AWC. We must encourage her because she has huge potentials,” Maigari told SuperSport.com.
The NFF chief also revealed the board had reached a consensus to take the coach to either England or Germany for refresher courses. He said the trip has been arranged for early next year.
“We want her to go to either of those countries because they are really advanced in football issues. That is also in line with the objectives of this board to always ensure that our coaches get the best at all times as it has to do with exposing them to the latest innovations and tactics in the world.
Nigeria is a giant in female football. We have conquered the continent and its time for us to transfer that dominance to the world stage.
We have good players and a sound coach. I am confident we will do well at the world cup next year,” he said.
Nigeria will face Canada, France and world champions, Germany at the group stages of next year’s World Cup in Germany.
