President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, has commended Sharks for its triumph in the 2010 Wafu cup.
Sharks overpowered holders, Horoya, in the final match played in Lome, on Sunday, to lift their first-ever trophy after more than 30 years of existence.
The Garden City club, which finished as runners-up in last year’s Federation Cup, had also finished second twice as runners-up in the same competition with supporters and critics wondering if the club was jinxed.
In a release made available to SuperSport.com by the Chief Media Officer of the NFF, Ademola Olajire, Maigari said: “We congratulate Sharks FC for this feat and pray that this is the beginning of great triumphs to come the way of the club. Surely, it has been a long time coming for the club to lay its hand on a trophy.
“We at the NFF believe this win will spur the club to greater things going forward”, said Maigari.
The team was on Tuesday hosted by Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi at a reception in government house, Port Harcourt.
