Ikpeba drums support for Maigari

Former Nigerian international and member of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee, Victor Nosa Ikpeba, has said the decision by the Alhaji Aminu Maigari led NFF executive Committee to bring on board former internationals will led to its success.

The new NFF Executive Committee has provided spaces for ex-internationals like former Green Eagles captain, Christian Chukwu, Garba Lawal, Victor Ikpeba to be on the technical committee of the NFF.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of Super Eagles new coach Samson Siasia, Ikpeba expressed gratitude to the Maigari led board for recognizing the enormous contributions of ex-international footballers.

He said in the past nobody seemed interested in tapping from the knowledge and experiences of former internationals but now that the new administration has demonstrated remarkable interest in working with them, the sky will be the limit for Nigerian football.

The 1997 African Footballer of the year said: “There is a new wind of change in Nigerian football. With the involvement of some of us in the technical committee shows that this NFF Executive Committee wants to work. It wants to succeed. They want to reach out to all of us because they believe that we can make meaningful contributions.

We are going to give the board the maximum co-operation it deserves. We have a lot to offer and it is good to know that are contributions to Nigerian football is being recognized at last”.

Ikpeba said there is need for Siasia to re-build the national team but it has to be a mixture of the old and new players as he maintained that Rome was not built in a day.

“I think Rome was not built in a day. I don’t think you can just build a new team straight away. You have to blend the old wine and the new wine together. I think it has to be a gradual process. It all depends on the commitment on the part of the players. Are they proud of the green white green colours?”, he asked
